Solo skirmish tabletop "war" games with printable books and model and scale independent

I want to dabble in 15mm why? its less fussy to store and get out and play and is possible more portable, and maybe maybe expand in to a full army but my main focus is new 15mm terrain and 15mm collection and rule set! and I may need the room in the near future as the family grows
My Interests lie in Space crews and X-com type scenarios and well as Conan, and Robin Hood style raids and fun adventures...Dr who.. why not mash everything up.. oh throw in a mech or two as well please..
The recent X-Com Chimera Squad pc game is defiantly something id love to recreate on tabletop
breach 1-3 room fight job done roll xp and campaign stuff, how it affected the world, progressed the quest .. and then plan next fight ..
and i'd love a solo game wasn't just combat skirmish aka Dr Who.. is that possible?
I know I know could fuss and print PDF and maybe look at pro printing is lulu.com? but not feeling that vibe just now ...(checked lulu on free bug hunt did seem ok price wise sure i tryed ranger of shadow and though its to much . might be page dependent )
Money issue : do google the games see how they play, proxy and look for play test rules dont just spend X on rules and miniatures you might not like and never use again..

Call to arms Elder scrolls Skyrim, awaiting order core product..28mm and generally as expensive as FFG GW etc..also played a few mission with proxies just like Rangers of shadow deep it was pdfing. considering 15mm this in the future

Doom Squad alternative armies £12 muskets to space rifles squad solo rules? could be a glimpse of my x-com idea upgrade stages aliens always 1 tech level higher .. ?
Core space: rule book only really ? £23 looked like a good board game to miniatures game
how many tokens from the core set would i need? looks fussy book keeping..

How the game generates Tension?
Is it constantly spawning enemies?
Is it fog of war and or initiative activation order?
Is it a hit point mash? attrition to a turn limit?
whats the selling point? unique miniature line? follows my theme? campaign? simplicity? space or dice needed? randomness?
My future:
I've a couple of 15 mm Sci-fi and fantasy minis incoming, I've also plenty of 28mm stuff fantasy and scifi but i see that being sent to the loft in the oncoming future!
so Ranger of Shadow deep and Call to arms will be go to after/during lockdown
kinda have the x-com hankering feeling for a bit of scifi
that pulp perilous tales looks up my street ..may brake my rule and check out lulu to print option, but so many other look tempting too .. very much analysis paralysis fear of missing out mindset but one of the 2 hours free rules swordplay or chain reaction i think will be my plunge
